SCHOOL ETHOS

Pastoral Care

Cygnet House combines a high academic standard with a sound pastoral system, a good breadth of extracurricular activity and involvement with the wider community.

We pride ourselves on being a "family orientated" school. Class teachers make a major contribution to the personal and social development of the girls, providing support and guidance at all times. The older girls, particularly the P7 class, help the younger pupils to gain confidence and independence.

Parents are kept fully informed of school events, holiday dates and changes in the timetable of the school day. Notices are given to pupils and information is also posted on the notice board.

Religious Education

All classes in Religious Studies are taught from a non-denominational perspective. Parents have the right to withdraw their daughters from classes in Religious Studies and the short collective worship section of morning assembly on the grounds of conscience.

 Choir

Music

Classes from P2-P7 are taken by a specialist teacher. All pupils participate in the Infant and Junior choirs. Performances are given in school and on public occasions.

Transfer results are always excellent and this year all our P7 girls obtained grammar school places. The Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Assessments are also well above the Northern Ireland average.

                        Cygnet House Playgroup

Children in the early years learn and develop many skills through play. There is a natural curiosity and a sense of wonder and amazement in each child and this may be fostered and accelerated through play. Through their play we aim in Cygnet House to involve the girls in a variety of well-planned experiences so that they are exposed to learning situations designed to foster a range of skills.

With the next stage of education in mind, we will be helping to prepare each child for her Baseline Assessment. This will be fully
explained to parents before entry into P1.

Each girl will be given the opportunity to:

  • settle smoothly into her new environment
  • bridge the gap between home and school grow in self confidence, experience success and thus develop a good self image
